GlassesUSA claims to be the largest online eyewear retailer, offering designer and house brands. Their offerings include: single vision lenses, multifocal lenses, Rx sunglasses, sports glasses, kids glasses, contact lenses, digital protection, and anti-reflective coatings.
EyeBuyDirect was founded based on the belief that quality eyewear should be accessible and affordable to everyone. In the words of the founder, “The ability to see shouldn’t be held as a premium when it’s such an integral part of our daily lives.” The company is based in Austin, TX, and claims to offer the most affordable prescription glasses in the world. Their offerings include eyeglasses and sunglasses, including options for prescription, non-prescription, and blue light blockers for kids and adults.
GlassesUSA vs EyeBuyDirect Insurance Coverage
GlassesUSA is out-of-network with most vision insurance plans, and many buyers simply pay for their glasses out-of-pocket. If you choose to use insurance, GlassesUSA will not file your claim to insurance on your behalf, but you can self-submit. To submit your claim, purchase the lenses/frames, fill out the insurance form, attach the itemized receipt, and submit the form to your insurance provider. GlassesUSA provides detailed instructions here. Keep in mind, if they are an out-of-network provider for your insurance plan, the out-of-network benefit may not be as favorable as the in-network benefit, so it is important to compare the cost of the frames/lenses you want to purchase with the in-network and out-of-network option.
EyeBuyDirect is out-of-network with all insurance companies, but will provide you with a detailed copy of the invoice and their tax ID number so that you can self-submit your claim. EyeBuyDirect does not offer as much support in filing out your out-of-network vision claim. Therefore, you will need to obtain the insurance form directly from your insurance company’s website if you choose to file for out of network reimbursement.
